September Classic Review: Shelridge Yarns

Something New Just For You!

We travel around the country throughout the year on the hunt for new yarns we know you’ll fall in love with. This winter, we met Lyn Gemmell of Shelridge Yarns at TNNA, who hand dyes plush merino blends in a wide range of lush colors at her rural home in Ontario, Canada.

You’ll receive one of their 80% merino/ 20% nylon yarns, depending on your weight preference. The 80/20 Fingering comes in 50 gram skeins of 185 yards so you’ll have 740 yards to play with! Windmere is a brand new bulky weight blend you get to try before anyone else! You'll get to test out this extremely silky new base before it's retail release in October. Your custom-sized skein has 185 grams of super bouncy yarn with 225 yards.

Top (Bright): Thistleflower, Green Apple, Lapis
Bottom (Muted): Rust, Iris, Silver

Gabrielle Vézina’s knit designs take advantage of crisp stitch definition in both yarns. Viridis showcases lace and cables combined with lots of texture using 80/20 Fingering. Bark N’ Tree is a cozy cowl full of chunky cables worked with Windmere.

Angèle Lumière created two crochet designs inspired by 1930s abstract artist Sonia Delaunay: a lacy asymmetrical shawl with 80/20 Fingering and a soft and warm hat and mitt set in Windmere.

Total Value of this Box: $70

Sweater season is here! Autumn has finally arrived which means it's time for the newest edition of Yarnbox Sweater. As we pull out our favorite knits, there's nothing like a brand new sweater to ring in the season.

Sometimes, you know a yarn is destined to become a great sweater. We love the texture and body of Cormo Worsted from Elemental Affects. Cormo sheep produce a long staple, crimpy wool- perfect for sweaters that hug the body with natural ease. Each skein has 100% 3-ply Cormo breed wool in a generous four ounce size giving you 250 yards. With a lustrous finish and beautiful stitch definition, this will quickly become your favorite sweater!

We're joined by Emma Welford, one of our favorite Yarnbox-featured designers. Her knit pattern Romex is a raglan pullover featuring an off-set panel of cable twists against a field of ribbing on both front and back. September Luxe Review: Knit Collage

As summer draws to a close, we're ready to grab needles, hooks and cozy yarns to bundle up in style in cooler weather. This quarter, we're inspired by lots of texture, soft colors and a bit of sparkle!

For this edition of Yarnbox Luxe, we've teamed up with Knit Collage, a company whose yarn line focuses on the beauty of handspun fibers to nurture the creative spirit. Every yarn is created by a small group of women in Punjab, India who card, spin and dye all the yarn by hand. Each skein takes several hours to create, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Spun Cloud is a fluffy and soft 100% wool super bulky yarn with sparkly lurex plied around it in a subtle thick and thin texture. Each giant 200 gram skein contains 100 yards in solid colors. Cast Away is a bulky weight 100% wool which comes in a range of neutrals with bits of bright colors handspun throughout. The finished result is a whirlwind of color in a soft textured yarn. Each 100 gram skein contains approximately 70 yards of yarn. Combined, you'll have 170 yards for a cozy textured garment!

Left to right: Aquadisiac + Pebble, Fog Heather + Chasing Rainbows, Creme Brulee + Peachy Sparkle

We've included two designs from the Knit Collage pattern team. Knit designer Susan Sheby and crochet designer Toni Lipsey created two wraps which combine both yarns for lots of texture and a hint shine.

To keep your finished piece always looking new, we've included a bottle of Unicorn Fibre scented Fibre Wash, designed to clean and soften luxury fibers. The included Lilly "Save Our Sweaters" Brush will remove lint and pills, keeping your treasured finished item tidy no matter how often it's worn!
