June Sock Review: MJ Yarns Sophistasock

I am so excited to share with you this month's sock yarn. As soon as I got the samples in the mail from our friend Jonathan at MJ Yarns, I knew that this new yarn he is debuting with is will be a HUGE hit. This is not the first time we have shared this Colorado based company with you but it is the first time to share his new magical sock yarn, Sophistasock!

Sophistasock is not just a new yarn base for MJ but also a new dying technique that is sure to be a new favorite for a lot of you. Jonathan had to pull out some clever math skills to create this, not just self striping but spiraling stripe that travels unbroken from toe to cuff. Inspired by Shakespeare's witches from Macbeth and the magical brews they concoct, this yarn is unlike anything you've experienced. Their unique dye process can be manipulated in any number of ways to create fun spirals on socks or fantastic effects on almost any project you can imagine.

And the colors, OH the colors! All of them are so fantastic! Johnathan's eye for color is terrific! All 390 yards of this labor intensive yarn is made with 75% SW merino, 15% nylon, 10% tencel equaling 100% LOVE!!!

Brights: Eye of Frog, Flame, Scale of Dragon,Wing of Pixie
Muted: Bezoar, Cauldron, Toe of Newt, Tongue of Bat, Wolfsbane

MJ Yarn's own Jonathan Berner has written a pattern especially for this yarn. He talks about how the yarn stripes at different gauges and different cast-on numbers giving you different options of stripe width and color pooling with different ways to manipulate the spiral to help you get started but don't be afraid to experiment!
